Congratulations to Somerset Academy Canyons’ (SAC) Mu Alpha Theta Club for placing second place in this year’s Mathematical Minutes competition. Zachary Morris, Nathanel Sivan, Matthew Goudreault, and Daniel Chavez worked together to create the music video DERIVTIL. DERIVTIL teaches students the concept of deriving equations used in Calculus classes while parodying Old Town Road by Lil Nas X.

The competition was nationwide, with a final prize of $3,000. Schools made videos related to a math concept, then would vote on videos throughout the nation on which school made the most educational yet Hip video. SAC made it to the top eight in the second round of voting between the videos where they were once again compared to other videos throughout the nation. SAC placed second just behind Lawton Chiles High School in the final vote.
