2019 is over, and with it came a great deal of movies that pleased all sorts of fans. From Glass , Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the record- breaking Avengers: Endgame , 2019 was filled with popular hits. With the arrival of 2020 , plenty of anticipated movies are coming to theaters .

Releasing on February 7^th, 2020, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is the next movie in the controversial DC Extended Universe. The film is directed by Cathy Yan (from the comedy-drama Dead Pigs) with a cast that includes Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Ball, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ian McGregor. This film will follow Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and others on a wild ride of mayhem.

Pixar’s Onward arrives in theaters on March 6, 2020, being the 22^nd movie released by the studio .  The film was directed by Dan Scanlon (Monsters University) and features Marvel stars Chris Pratt and Tom Holland. The story is set in a fantasy-modern hybrid world. It follows two brothers, Ian and Barely Lightfoot, who go on a quest to find magic so that they can see their dad one more time.

While not much is currently known about A Quiet Place: Part II, other than the March 20, 2020 release date, many are already anticipating it based on the critically acclaimed 2018 horror movie The Quiet Place. The film will be directed and co-written by the original director, John Krasinski, and will star Emily Blunt and Cillian Murphy.

Mulan arrives into theaters on March 27^th, 2020. The new movie is a live-action adaptation of the original, fan-beloved Disney animated movie. It is directed by Niki Caro and features an all-star cast of Chinese actors and actresses including Donnie Yen, Gong Li, and Jet Li. This adaptation is said to be altering much of the original movie (such as the exclusion of Mushu), so long time fans should expect something fresh going into the theater.

Being the 1^st film in the MCU’s ‘Phase 4’ of movies, many are excited to watch Black Widow on the big screen. The movie will be directed by Cate Shortland, featuring a cast comprised of Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz and David Harbour. The movie focuses on Natasha Romanov (Scarlett Johansson) and her adventures set between two of the most beloved MCU films, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. The film is set to release on May 1^st, 2020.

Fast & Furious 9 revs into theaters on May 22^nd, 2020. The film will be directed by Justin Lin, as well as starring Charlize Theron, Vin Diesel, Lucas, Helen Mirren, and others. Although there are few known plot details, the previous success of former movies in the franchise is a good predicate for the fame it will receive.

Wonder Woman 1984 comes to theaters on June 5^th, 2020 as a sequel to one of the most popular films of 2017, Wonder Woman. The director for 1984 , Patty Jenkins, returns from the original movie. Gal Gadot, Connie Nielson, and Chris Pine are all reprising their roles from the first film, alongside newcomers Christen Wig and Pedro Pascal. The film is set in the year 1984, and shows how Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) and the mysteriously revived Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) react to the new world around them.

Soul is Pixar’s second animated film of 2020. The film is said to explore one’s inner self and soul, as a musician must find his way back to his physical body. The film is set to be co-directed by Pete Docter and Kemp Powers, plus a cast including Jaime Foxx and Tina Fey. The film is due out on June 19^th 2020.

The Ghostbusters franchise is making a huge revival with Ghostbusters: Afterlife ,  premiering on July 10^th, 2020. This film will serve as a follow up to the original two films. It will follow a single mom and her two kids as they discover their relation to the original Ghostbusters. It is directed by Jason Reitman and stars Mckenna Grace, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Paul Rudd.

Eternals is the second film that Marvel Studios is releasing in 2020. Eternals is directed by Chloe Zhao and stars Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, Kit Harrington and many others. The film is set to release on November 6^th.

While there are many other anticipated films of 2020, these are a few that stand out from the others. Will these movies live up to the hype, or will they let fans down? Nevertheless, 2020 looks like a promising start to a new decade of films .
