There are many differing opinions as to whether or not books are losing popularity. However, they seem to be lessening in popularity because many people have either found other forms of entertainment, have started to use eBooks rather than paper books, or simply do not have enough free time to read a book. In the past, books were very popular as a form of entertainment and a way to relive stress, but there are many speculations as to if books have become unpopular.

Books seem to be less common because people have discovered other forms of entertainment. Technology has become one of the main sources of entertainment and can cause a distraction when people are reading. People then become more interested in what technology has to offer rather than what is inside of a book. On www.digitalresponsibility.org, it states, “Technology is so pervasive it can be hard to put down the phone or turn off the laptop.” When people go on their technological devices, they can get sucked in and forget that they were reading a book, and subsequently lose interest.

Another reason why books appear to have become more unpopular is because many people have started to use eBooks rather than paper books. Several people find eBooks to be more convenient than paper books since they can be quicker to obtain, take up less space, and will improve as time goes on – since, of course, they are part of technology, which is always improving. On www.successnet.org, it says, “This is an emerging technology and people are often slow to change. But as the quality of monitors improve and become more compact and mobile, more and more we’ll be reading electronic books.” Since many people seem to be more open to change in today’s society, and many have grown impatient, eBooks seem to be the better alternative for them.

In addition, book use has become increasingly rare because numerous people do not have enough free time to read a book. Many people have become more lazy and tired because of all the work that they have been put through and are not willing to put in the effort to read a book. On www.huffingtonpost.com, it states, “When one opens a book, one brings his or her experiences and knowledge, or hunger for knowledge, to the work and a new world can unfold with each turning page.” Many people have too much work for them to handle, and become overwhelmed, and when they finally catch a break, they feel too exhausted to try and read a book. Some are bored by books when they are picked up after all the other reading that they have done at work, and do not want to try to comprehend yet another piece of reading because they feel as if they have exercised their brain enough.

Whatever the case may be, the world is constantly changing, and people always seem to be finding new interests – excluding books in the process.
