The Green Club Bagged A Win for Somerset

On Monday, September 17th, Somerset’s Green Club held its first activity of the year – a campus wide garbage sweep. Over the course of about an hour, and with sixteen students in attendance, approximately five bags of garbage were collected in total.

Participants were divided into groups and together covered the east side of the campus, including the surrounding areas of the athletic fields and the back parking lot, along with parts of the middle and high school hallways.

“What we did was important because it helps create a more [clean] environment and school for the students and staff,” said participant Kailey Ceseretti.

Those in attendance were pleasantly surprised by the amount of waste they collected in such a short amount of time. Plans for another garbage sweep are already in preparation, and are scheduled for the near future.

“Our goals [are] to get students, parents, and staff interested and educated about sustainability, pollution issues and other environmentally green activities that can benefit us all,” stated Mr. Kingwell.
