Hurricane Season Spins Just Around The Corner
April 27, 2018
With hurricane season approaching in about a month, it is time for hurricane predictions.
The predictions for this year’s hurricane season vary slightly. The Weather Channel predicts thirteen named storms, six hurricanes, and two major hurricanes – compared to the yearly average of twelve named storms, six hurricanes, and three major storms. Both North Carolina State University along with Colorado State University show similar patterns. From the results, and average hurricane season is expected.
As normal, the temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean will remain cooler in some areas and warmer in others. The temperatures of El Nino are likely to be slightly lower than average, differing from the usually warm water.
Throughout spring, the NAO (North Atlantic Oscillation), known as the pattern of pressure, will be positive which in turn will strengthen the pressure of the Azores – Bermuda and the Greenland Block pressure systems. This means more winds near the Azoles Bermuda High that will lower water temperatures, fasten the tropical wave track in the Atlantic, and also lessen the chance of rain compared to the average year.
For the U.S. this means that around two expected landfalls will occur which can range from tropical storms or even major hurricanes.
Although an average year is expected up ahead, coastal residents should still be prepared and aware of their surroundings.
