Glow with the Flow: This Year’s Prom Styles

Vanessa Amaya, Staff Writer

Simple. Flowy. That is the big theme going on with prom dresses this year! Everyone wants to keep it simple and elegant. Last year, the most popular style of prom dress was two piece dresses. Of course, there are going to be some people who have different ideas and styles, but this theme for dresses has probably been talked about more than any other. There are many pros to having a flowy style, such as having more freedom to move around, being easier to handle, looking much more classy, and having a bit of a princess effect to the dress. Depending on the person, they can style it however they want.

Sometimes you can find the right dress in strange places. In Orlando, for example, there is a Goodwill that sells just formal clothing for very good prices! You’d be surprised at what you can find in a thrift shop.

Now for prom makeup, there has been a mix of different ideas, whether someone wants to go with a natural glow with something light and smooth, while others want full-on glam with sparkles and glitter. Most girls that have been talking about prom actually have said they rather prefer a natural face of makeup than a full face. A natural face can include brown neutral eyes with some BB cream, a light coverage of foundation that often makes you look dewy or glowy, and to finish the look, a gloss or natural pink lipstick. On the other hand, a full face glam look consists of eye glitter, false lashes, full coverage foundation, contour and highlighting, matte liquid lipstick and – almost every girl’s favorite part – the highlighter that gives you the ultimate glow.

And finally, accessories! These are probably going to be one of my personal favorite parts when getting ready for prom. Chokers were extremely popular in 2017 and have been carrying its popularity into this year. For prom, diamond chokers are absolutely stunning. Put that together with the right dress and you look like a million bucks. Another accessory is bracelets and bangles, which are also stunning when you correctly place it together. It is small details like this that can make your outfit look better.

I hope everyone gets creative with their prom ideas and has fun. Remember: do what you see fit, and be yourself!
