It’s the morning of picture day and you’re getting ready to look presentable, but do you really have to do that anymore? Many school picture companies allow you to edit your school photo. Many students don’t think their school pictures look good – so now they can edit out acne or scars, lighten or darken their hair or even make themselves thinner.

When portrait studios edit your photo, in a way they are telling you you are not able to take a good picture. That can lower your self-esteem. Other students might get jealous. As a girl, it is really hard to fit into what society thinks is a pretty or perfect body shape. Girls also feel that editing photos gives boys a false sense of reality. According to two 7th grade boys, they like the editing of girls’ school photos because it “makes the girl prettier”.
